Discover 7 Great Midwest Fall Scenic Tours

Autumn is in the air! The leaves are changing at the Lake of the Ozarks and the mild temperatures are calling us outdoors. Now is the perfect time to hit the road for a fall foliage tour and we're going to share some fantastic places to explore before the last leaf drops for winter. Of course, if you're so inclined to swap the scenic road tour for a boat ride, BomBay Boat Rentals can send you out for a day trip on the gorgeous Lake of the Ozarks!

St. Louis, Missouri

Missouri makes fall look good! The season lingers here and we don't mind at all. You'll find many ways to celebrate this time of year in St. Louis. If heights don't make you fuss take a ride to the top of the Gateway Arch, you're sure to see the city in all it's fall glory from the window of this landmark. Forest park boasts over 1,000 miles of beautiful changing leaves and is perfect for a breezy picnic. But don't lose your walking shoes just yet! Take a stroll through the Missouri Botanical Gardens and don't forget to take time to visit the Zoo - it's free!

Illinois River Road National Scenic Byway

An easy drive from St. Louis, this National Scenic Byway is sure to please the leaf lovers. It threads through natural areas, past water views, bluffs and the beautiful fall foliage will be visible throughout. You won't miss a thing on this route. Meal options are plenty, history and art culture are around every corner and you might enjoy some local vineyards on your way too!

Katy Trail

Did you know it's possible to pedal your way across Missouri? You may not have the time (or stamina) to bike the 225 mile Katy Trail but you may find a day excursion is all you need to enjoy some of the loveliest changing trees our state has to offer. The trail starts northwest of St Louis and loosely follows the Missouri River west. Depending on where you come into the trail, you'll find it winds through farmland, prairie, wooded country and more. If you're from the Lake of the Ozarks area, just an hour west you'll find the Katy Trail entrance in Jefferson City, Missouri. Whether you're biking or hiking, you won't be disappointed!

The Glacial Hills Scenic Byway

Ready to see Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa from one great platform? The byway runs through rolling, wooded countryside that is sure to be in spectacular fall form this season. Take a break at an awe-inspiring outlook in the tiny town of White Cloud, located just 85 miles northwest of Kansas City, Missouri. When you'e reached this post on the bluffs of the Missouri River, you'll know you're at the end of the 63 mile Glacial Hills Scenic Byway.

Missouri Wine Trails

The colors on the trees can be seen in a glass when you travel Missouri's wine trails! As you make your way through the state you'll find many wineries along the Missouri River. The region will be bustling with fall festivities, wine tours and tastings.

The Ozarks

As the landscape transformation takes place, there's no better way to explore nature and beauty than through a tour of the Ozarks. Near Branson, Missouri you'll find, nearly every road you take offers stunning views from the hills and cliffs of the Ozark Mountains. From mountain tops to level lakes, you'll find overlooks in abundance and opportunities to take a stroll through many area nature trails.

Arkansas' Eureka Springs

If art, history and quirky culture are on your fun list, a Victorian town nestled in the hills of Arkansas might be your destination of choice. This charming historical town offers more than colorful charms, you'll find art galleries, award winning cuisine, natural springs and enough trees to get your lovely leaf gazing fix. It's a must see on your scenic getaway!

Autumn is an incredible time to discover the scenery of the Midwest. Whether your idea of a getaway is a long peaceful drive, or wandering the colorful tree-shaded streets of a small town, we know you'll love the beauty of these great fall tours. BomBay Boat Rental Co. Encourages Boating Safety

The Lake of the Ozarks was voted USA Today's best recreational lake in the country last year, and not surprisingly! The lake offers boaters miles upon miles of deep channels and coves, perfect for tubing, swimming and more. At BomBay Boat Rental Co. we know that having fun is a priority for our customers and keeping them informed about boating safety ensures that having fun is ALL that happens. Keep in mind these tips for avoiding boating accidents and your next voyage will be accident free and all fun.

Running out of gas

If you run out of gas on the highway, you can pull over and call AAA. Not quite the case in the middle of the lake. Although, even on the water, you can call a towing agency or even a friend, but you're not likely to find somewhere to "pull over." Running out of gas in the main channel leaves you stranded and unable to avoid other boaters or the shoreline. You may wonder how this could happen. Miscalculating your distance can leave you beyond your fuel range and stranded before you're able to safely return to port. A faulty fuel gauge could also leave you floating instead of driving. Always calculate the fuel you think you'll need to go out and you'll be sure to safely return to the dock.

Breaking down

Many serious accidents occur due to mechanical failure. A faulty battery could mean the boat won't start and if that happens at night, your lights won't work. Finding yourself in a stranded boat at night leaves you practically invisible. If you're a weekend boater, check your fluid levels each weekend. Monitor engine instrumentation and keep an eye on battery levels. Keep a flashlight on your boat, you can use it to signal other boaters at night, and make sure the safety kit includes flares.

Falling overboard

Falling overboard is usually little more than a wet humiliation, but if you hit your head on the way out of the boat, it can quickly turn into a much more serious situation. This is especially dangerous to solo boaters who fall overboard.Wear a life jacket!

Speeding at night

Unfortunately, one of the chief causes of boating accidents is failing to maintain a safe speed for the conditions. At night, you can't always trust your senses to determine whether the way is clear. If another boater's lights fail, they create a navigation hazard for you and others. Travel at a safe speed at night and reduce your chance of an accident.

Safety gear

Pay attention to the safety gear on your boat. Don't depart without the proper number and sizes of life jackets. Don't overlook the value of your anchor as well. They are your first line of defense in a breakdown or store. It keeps your boat safely in place should your engine fail.

Weather

Poor visibility is among the risks boaters face if they ignore weather reports. Keep an eye on the weather and don't leave your dock without checking the weather for updates.

Avoid alcohol

Boating while intoxicated increases the chance of a boating accident or arrest. If you are operating a watercraft, avoid alcoholic beverages.

BomBay Boat Rental Company is your premier Lake of the Ozarks boat and jetski rental company. We love boating at the Lake of the Ozarks and hope your next voyage is fun and most of all safe. Don't forget these safety tips and be an accident free boater! If you don't own your own watercraft keep BomBay Boat Rentals in mind for your next rental!

Beginner Boaters- Now's The Time to Test The Water!

Boating in the fall can be the perfect time for a novice boater to get some hours under his or her belt. The water is calm, the weather is comfortable and there are fewer people zipping around; a recipe for boating success! If you want to experience recreational boating but feel you need some practice behind the wheel, now is a great time and, renting a boat at the Lake of the Ozarks is an easy and affordable way to get your feet wet (literally!). From PWCs and ski boats to Tritoons, BomBay Boat Rentals has all the equipment and rental options to build a great day on the water! We offer some advice to our lake lovers that are still getting comfortable on the water.

Once you’ve decided to rent, where do you start?

BomBay Boat Rental Company has three convenient locations to welcome you and give you all the options you desire to meet your boating needs. Once you’ve chosen the best location you will find that we offer the best fleet of boats around! Depending on the size and desire of your party, we have ski boats for the fast fun seekers, spacious Tritoons for serious relaxation and comfort, and waverunners for the adventurous!

Now that you’ve chosen your boat, what do you need?

Autumn is upon us and while we’re fortunate that warm afternoons are typical of the Midwest fall season, it’s important to keep an eye on the weather before and during your trip so you’re not caught by surprise. You’ll want to dress appropriately. Fall days can bring significant changes in temperature and conditions. It’s better to have layers on so you can adapt easily when the weather gets warmer or cooler. You won’t want to forget a map! If you’re planning on spending the day navigating the large Lake of the Ozarks, and you're not familiar with the area, you’ll want to find out about possible shallow areas or obscurities. Let someone know where you’ll be and when you expect to be back- darkness comes earlier this time of year and you won't want to get caught out at night.

You’re on the water, what do you do now?

Wear a life jacket if you are an inexperienced boater, and children should always wear a PFD. It’s even more important when the weather is cooler. During autumn, the days might be warm, but cold nights mean the water can be chilly. Next, have fun! The Lake of the Ozarks has a variety of waterfront restaurants that are open in the fall and you will find other boaters out enjoying the same beautiful Ozark weather you are.

Autumn’s arrival doesn’t mean the boating season has come to an end and it can be an excellent time for beginner boaters to gain experience and knowledge about boating. BomBay Boat Rentals is committed to great customer service and would be happy to assist you with your rental. Our fall boat rentals are an exceptional value and impeccably well maintained. You can always count on a dependable rental from Bombay Boat Rentals!

It's A Great Time Of Year To Go Boating

With the schools back in session and fall quickly approaching, getting out on the water may not be at the top of your thoughts, but it should be! Autumn is one of the most amazing times to rent a boat at the Lake of the Ozarks. The scenery is spectacular, the lake is quiet, and BomBay Boat Rental Co. offers some unbeatable discounts on our already incredible prices.

Better Prices (Half-Price!)
Every season we offer the best boat rental prices at the Lake of the Ozarks. These are always available as hourly rates, daily rates, multi-day rates, and weekly rates. Although we have great prices all summer long, they get even better after Labor Day.

For the rest of the season you can rent a boat or jet ski during the week for HALF-PRICE!!! Monday through Friday you can take out one of our state-of-the-art watercraft for half of what you would have paid over the summer. If you haven't already, now would be a great time to get signed up for one of our Membership Rental Programs for the 2017 season and get unlimited access to our rentals through 1-day advanced reservations next year.

Calmer Lake
The lake sees a lot less traffic this time of year due to so many people being busy with school activities. This means a much calmer ride on the water and you've got lots of room to enjoy the lake. There will even be days when you are the only boater in sight and it seems like you are on your own private lake. If you happen to enjoy fishing, the calm water is much more inviting to the fish and you should have luck with them biting.

Scenic Beauty

The Lake of the Ozarks is surrounded by natural beauty. Throughout the fall you will be able to watch the leaves change color and appreciate the sights and smells of the season. It's a lot easier to travel longer distances when the water is calm, so you can spend the entire day exploring the area and enjoying the scenery.

The Fun is NOT Over Yet
Most of the lakeside attractions, bars, & restaurants are still open seven days a week, so you'll have lots of great spots to make pit stops around the lake. There are some great boating events coming up over the next couple of months too. In addition to the many local fishing tournaments, the Fall Harbor Hop is taking place on Saturday, October 8, 2016. Over 40 locations take part in this, and it's always an amazing day on the water full of fun and prizes.

Fall is a wonderful time to go boating at the Lake of the Ozarks. We would love to get you out on the water, and right now you can get out there during the week for half-price! Give BomBay Boat Rental Co. a call at 573-365-1800 to make your reservation, or visit us online to make a reservation request through our website. An amazing time on the water is waiting for you!
