That's not the only time you will want to reserve a watercraft from BomBay Boat Rental Co. for a Shootout event though. There are also 2 poker runs going on before the big races!

Hit the Beach at the Lake of the Ozarks

When you rent a boat at the Lake of the Ozarks, you mind probably goes straight to imagining all of the fun that you will be experiencing on the water. While that is definitely the most awesome part about boating, there are also a lot of great places along the shoreline to enjoy the lake experience.

One of these attractions happens to be the beaches you will find around the Lake of the Ozarks. BomBay Boat Rental Co. has compiled a list of some of the local beaches you can cruise to by boat.

Located on the 34.5 MM, Captain Ron's Bar & Grill in Sunrise Beach, MO is opens Monday through Friday at 11 am, and at 9 am on Saturday and Sunday. They feature two family friendly beaches, beach volleyball, a full menu and multiple bars.

You can also take play sand volleyball, basketball, ladder golf, and washers. If you are traveling without kids, you can enjoy the adults-only swim-up pool bar.

Sun Protection Tips for Boating & the Warriors Against Melanoma Poker Run

The Warriors Against Melanoma Poker Run will be taking place across the Lake of the Ozarks on Saturday, August 13, 2016. You can enjoy an exciting day on the water, help raise money for an important cause, and learn a thing or two about protecting yourself from skin cancer. BomBay Boat Rental Co. has the poker run details for you, as well as a few tips to keep your skin safe while boating.

The Poker Run

Warriors Against Melanoma (WAM) is a non-profit organization that is run entirely by volunteers, and it was founded by a stage 3 melanoma survivor. The group's goal is to educate people about this deadly skin cancer and also raise money to help find effective treatments and eventually a cure.

We've got your Lake of the Ozarks boat rental waiting to be reserved for this awesome event. One of our locations, Dog Days Bar & Grill, is one of the poker stops, so you'll be all set to grab your first card! The run takes place from 11 am - 6 pm, with an after-party at 7 pm.

Once you're on the water, you just need to visit one of the stops to sign up for the poker run. There is a $20 donation per hand. You will get 1 card and 1 fact about skin cancer at each stop. If you are able to produce those facts at the after-party, they will give you a free bonus card for your poker hand. For even more details, visit www.WarriorsAgainstMelanoma.com. This year's stops include:

  • Dog Days Bar & Grill
  • Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina
  • Bulldog's Beach House Bar & Grill
  • Larry's on the Lake
  • Nautifish Rum Bar
  • Paradise Tropical Bar
  • Topsider Bar & Grill, featuring the after-party at 7 pm

Protect Your Skin While Boating

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, melanoma is the most dangerous form of skin cancer. It is a cancerous growth that develops when unrepaired DNA damage to skin cells triggers mutations. This is most often caused by ultraviolet radiation from sunshine or tanning beds.

Melanoma is not the most common skin cancer, but it does cause the most deaths. If recognized and treated early, a cure is very likely. WAM is working hard to make sure people are aware so that more deaths can be avoided. Examine your skin regularly, and have a doctor check it out yearly. You can find the warning signs to look for at www.SkinCancer.org.

There are precautions that you can take while out on the lake to keep your skin safe.
  • Wear sunscreen: A broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with SPF of 30 or higher should be worn when you will be outside for an extended time. Reapply it every couple of hours and after swimming or excessive sweating.
  • Cover your skin: A hat is excellent for keeping the sun off of your face and scalp. UPF(Ultraviolet Protection Factor) clothing is available that keeps a large amount of UV radiation from passing through it.
  • Protect your eyes: Sunglasses are a must. Polarized lenses work the best while boating to reduce glare from the water.
  • Stay in the shade: The sun is at it's strongest between 10 am - 4 pm. Staying in the shade helps, but be aware that the glare from the water can bounce those rays back up to you. Don't count on clouds for shade either. 80% of the sun's harmful UV rays can still come through, even on a cloudy day.
  • Don't let your skin burn: You don't have to burn to be at risk for skin cancer, but when you do, your chances increase.

Make plans to join in the fun of the Warriors Against Melanoma Poker Run on August 13, and while you're at it, make a plan to keep your skin safe while out on the water. BomBay Boat Rental Co. is ready to get you out there in one of our boat or jet ski rentals at the Lake of the Ozarks, and we want you and your skin to be safe while you're cruising.

When you rent a boat at the Lake of the Ozarks and you are new to the area, you may not know where to begin. There are so many exciting things to do and gorgeous places to visit. We put our heads together here at BomBay Boat Rental Co. and came up with a bucket list of boating fun to get you started on your own adventure.

Learn a new sport

Boating at the Lake of the Ozarks is an amazing activity all on its own, but there are also a lot of fun water sports that you can take part in with the help of a boat.

  • Skiing
  • Tubing
  • Wakeboarding

Enter a fishing tournament

There are tons of fishing tournaments going on all of the time in the lake area. Some of them are geared specifically toward amateurs. The Big Bass Bash takes place every fall, and they give away $100,000 to the grand prize winner, as well as lots of other big cash prizes. You may find a new favorite hobby and make some money too.

Go sight-seeing

The landscapes that you will see simply cruising around the lake will take your breath away. There are also lots of wonderfully scenic places to stop along the shore. An earlier blog of ours highlighted Great Natural Lake of the Ozarks Attractions By Water detailing these great places to visit by boat.

  • Ha Ha Tonka
  • Bridal Cave & Thunder Mountain Park
  • Lake of the Ozarks State Park
  • Aquatic Trail

Attend an annual water event

Our lake hosts numerous thrilling events on the water every year. Funlake.com is a great site to visit to see a calendar of upcoming events. There are lots of holidays that lake area businesses shoot fireworks over the water. People make it a point to visit here annually for these popular events:

  • Harbor Hop (Fall & Spring)
  • AquaPalooza
  • Lake Race
  • Shootout
  • Liquidforce Brostock

Don't just boat

While there's nothing better than boating, we offer a couple of other exciting options that are just as awesome to get you out on the lake for a day full of fun. Our Lake of the Ozarks jet ski rentals can take you everywhere a boat does. If you are a member of our boat rental club, our waverunner rentals are included too.

We've recently started renting paddleboards from our Village Marina and Camden on the Lake locations. If you've never given it a try, move this one to the top of your bucket list!

Get out there and do nothing!

Not exactly nothing, but what we mean is you don't have to make a bunch of plans when you go out on our boat rentals. Instead, find a quiet cove, do a little swimming, lay out in the sun, and just relax. Simply coving out with a bunch of your friends can be one of the best days ever.

BomBay Boat Rental Co, Lake of the Ozarks

That list should be more than enough to keep you busy for the rest of the summer. Pick out your favorite ones to start with, then reserve one of our Lake of the Ozarks watercraft rentals and get started. This is just a taste of the incredible fun to be had out on our awesome lake, and BomBay Boat Rental Co. is here to make sure you have a chance to get out there and try them all.

Packing a Beach Bag - Everything You Need For a Day on the Lake

We've got the best boat rentals at the Lake of the Ozarks to get you out on the water, but when it comes to all of the extras you need to enjoy a day in the sun, well that's up to you. We've put together a list of items that will come in handy while you are cruising the lake.

Sunscreen

Even on an overcast day, those UV rays will make their way to you. Keep your skin safe by applying sunscreen before you head out, and reapply it every couple of hours and after swimming. Just in case you miss a spot, you might want to pack some aloe vera gel too.

Drinking Water

It is extremely important to stay hydrated during a long, hot day out on the lake, especially if you will be drinking any alcoholic beverages. Your day will last a lot longer and end much easier if you drink plenty of water throughout. While a cooler full of ice won't fit inside your beach bag, it's a good idea to bring one on board to hold your water. Don't forget the koozies too.

Snacks

All of that activity on the water will make you hungrier than usual. You'll need plenty of energy to keep having fun! Having a few non-perishable snacks in your beach bag will allow you to put off making a stop to eat lunch or dinner. While you're at it, throw a roll of paper towels in there, just in case you get a little messy.

Dry Towels

Each person will need at least one towel to dry off with. Make sure you have extras on hand to lay out on and for backup in case one falls in the lake. Plastic bags come in handy to transport the really wet towels home.

Sunglasses/ Hats

Your eyes will need protection from the glare of the sun, which is especially blinding when it reflects off of the water. Hats also help to keep the sun out of your eyes, and work well stop the top of your head and ears from getting burnt.

Charged Cell Phone

In case of an emergency, or if you happen to lose your way, make sure you have a fully charged cell phone to call for help. They are also great for snapping a few pictures to record the awesome fun you are having! You may want to keep your phone, along with any chargers or other items that don't work well wet, inside a waterproof bag.

First Aid Kit

Another emergency item, which you hope won't need to be used, is a first aid kit. It's always better to be safe than sorry. When you are cruising the lake, you may need to drive a while to find a place to stop if someone gets hurt, so it's good to have a few safety items on the boat with you.

Trash Bag

Always handy for empty water bottles, cans, and snack wrappers. Make sure everyone uses them during the trip and cleaning up at the end of the day will go much faster and be a lot easier.

GPS or Map

There are quite a few twists and turns to this wonderful lake of ours. If you are not familiar with it, bring along a GPS device or plot your route on a map before you head out. That way, if you get turned around at some point, you will have something to help you find your back.

If you have these items in your beach bag, you should be able to spend less time stopping for supplies throughout the day and more time enjoying boating on the Lake of the Ozarks. If you have any questions about where to go or what you'll need while boating, the staff at BomBay Boat Rental Co. will be happy to help you out. "Better product, better prices, & better people" means that we offer you the best boating experience at the Lake of the Ozarks from the friendliest and most helpful people around.
