10 Items You Should Bring Boating

A day out on the water is a perfect escape from everyday worries that may be bringing you down. Our boat rental company at the Lake of the Ozarks has some great boat and PWC rental options available and four locations around the Lake of the Ozarks. As you choose what type of vessel and which BomBay Boat Rental location to rent from, you're likely thinking of the items you need to pack for your next day out on the water. We have you covered with our complete list below:

License

In the state of Missouri, you have to have a boating license in order to operate a boat, even if you are just renting. Make sure you either keep this with your boating supplies or in your wallet so you'll have it.

Phone

Having your phone handy is important for a number of reasons. You can quickly make a phone call if something doesn't go as planned on the water. You can also check the weather if a storm looks like it's rolling in. Another perk is to be able to take photos of your fun day on the boat!

Sunscreen

The sun can cause serious damage to skin, if you don't use sunscreen. Protecting your skin is important for an enjoyable boating experience (and you'll thank yourself the next few days after, too).

Snacks

A day on the water makes you hungry! Pack non-perishable food items, like crackers or granola bars to ensure your crew can fight those hunger pains. You can also pack a cooler with a complete meal, if you plan on spending more than a few hours on the water.

Towels

You'll likely want to swim to cool off in the hot summer heat. Once you get back on the boat, it can be uncomfortable to be wet. A towel can help keep you and your seat on the boat dry, after swimming.

Spare Clothing

Clothing can easily get wet or blow out of the boat. Try to pack an extra pair of clothing for everyone on board so you can ensure you have clothes if you decide to stop for a bite to eat or for a more comfortable ride home, after your day on the water.

Water

Staying hydrated is important, especially in the hot summer temps. Pack plenty of water for your entire boating crew to stay hydrated and healthy on your boat outing.

Eye Protection

The bright summer sun can take a toll on your eyes. Bring sunglasses or a hat to try to shade your eyes from the direct sun.

Floats

If you're planning to swim in the water during your day on the boat, bring floats for everyone on board. This gives swimmers something to hold on to while floating in the water. It's more relaxing for everyone that way!

First Aid Kit

While no one plans on injuries on the water, it does happen from time to time. Bringing a first aid kit can help you take care of minor injuries that may occur while boating or swimming in the water.

Now that you know some of the items you should pack for your next boating adventure, you're ready to schedule your boat rental at the Lake of the Ozarks. We have four convenient locations to pick up your rental so you're likely close to one of them already! Book your rental with BomBay Boat Rental Company today!

Perks of Renting a Wave Runner

Are you dreaming of getting out on the water this summer but aren't sure what kind of watercraft to rent at the Lake of the Ozarks? BomBay Boat Rental is here for you! We have a ton of rental options available and we're pointing out the perks of renting a wave runner at the Lake of the Ozarks today. Check it out!

An All Around Fun Experience

You'll find this out very soon after you begin riding, but before you do, we can assure you that you will have the time of your life. They are fast and put you a little bit closer to the water than you are on a boat. You can get into smaller areas, letting you explore more. It's extra fun to rent a few with friends and race to all of the cool spots that the Lake of the Ozarks has to offer. After you jump a couple of wakes from some of the bigger boats out there, your adventurous spirit will be hooked.

Maneuver Easily on the Water

This particular jet ski is the only watercraft of its kind that comes with an on-water brake. This means that you will be able to come to a stop up to 100 feet sooner than on other jet skis. The brake is located on the left side of the handlebar, meaning you never have to take your hands away from them. Squeezing the brake lever brings you to a stop, and squeezing it again while stopped will put the PWC in reverse. This makes docking a breeze. These extra features make it easy for even a beginner to pick up this exciting sport.

Do Your Own Thing

Spending time with your crew is fun, but sometimes it's nice to do your own thing. A wave runner gives you the chance to break away in a small group or by yourself for a few hours of fun! Cruise down the lake or float in a cove and take in the breathtaking scenery around the area. Either way, it's sure to be a memorable and relaxing time away from your big group!

More Fuel Efficient

Our jet skis are lightweight, and the compact design makes it easy to get them into the water and get you on your way. Another great bonus is the fact that they are extremely fuel-efficient. That means lots of cruising around the Lake for less money spent on gas when compared to a large boat.

What are you waiting for? Now's the perfect time to book your wave runner rental at the Lake of the Ozarks. Lucky for you, we have FOUR locations around the lake so there's one conveniently located near you!

The BEST Foods to Bring for a Day of Boating! 🍉🚤

There is no denying that a fun-filled day of boating makes you work up an appetite! Staying hydrated and fueling your body with healthy foods is important when you're spending the day out on the water. The next time you're on one of our Lake of the Ozarks boat rentals, consider packing a few of these tasty treats!

Fruit Kabobs

Making up some fruit kabobs is a fantastic snack and a great way to stay hydrated. Taking the time to make kabobs will make grabbing a snack easy and you won't have to worry about having plates. Stock up on your favorite fruits, buy some bamboo skewers and you've got the perfect snack.  Fruits that work great for these skewers include watermelon, cantaloupe, kiwi, grapes, pineapple, and strawberries.

Fresh Lemonade

Lemonade is a refreshing drink, customizable, and a kids' favorite! Save a milk or water jug and use it for easy storing. Below is an easy recipe for traditional lemonade but feel free to add your favorite fruits to change the flavor. Strawberry, mangos, mint, and raspberries are great in lemonade!

Ingridenets

2 cups sugar
1 cup hot water
2 cups fresh lemon juice
1 gallon cold water
1 lemon, sliced

Directions

In a 1 gallon container, place sugar and hot water, and stir until sugar dissolves. Add lemon juice and cold water to render 1 gallon. Stir until well mixed. Pour lemonade over glasses of ice, squeeze slice of lemon on top of each, and garnish with a sprig of mint.

Dill Pickle Wraps

Ingredients

1 jar Claussen Mini Dill Pickles (Refrigerator Pickles)
8 ounces Cream cheese
3 packages ham lunch meat (sliced thin)

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese to room temperature or even a little warmer.
  2. Spread cream cheese on individual pieces of the lunch meat.
  3. Wrap the cream cheese and meat around pickles that have been dried off with paper towels.
  4. Continue wrapping the pickle with one or two more pieces of meat and cream cheese.
  5. Place wrapped pickles in the fridge to let the cream cheese harden back up.
  6. Slice pickles in 1/3 to 1/2 inch pieces to serve or eat.

Caprese Salad Skewers

If you're planning to make some fruit kabobs, why not utilize the rest of your skewers for some delicious Caprese salad skewers! It may feel like a little bit of work putting everything together, but trust us, once you're on the boat grabbing a skewer will make snack time easy!

Ingredients

Cherry tomatoes
Mozzarella balls
Fresh Basil
Olive Oil
1 cup balsamic vinegar
salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Assemble, tomatoes, basil (roll from one end to the other), and mozzarella balls on medium-sized toothpicks. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  2. To make balsamic glaze, add one cup of balsamic vinegar to a saucepan over medium heat. Once it comes to a boil, set on simmer for about 10-15 minutes until it reduces to a syrup consistency. You can check by dipping a spoon in the balsamic and if it covers the back of it, it's done. As it cools, it will thicken a bit more, then drizzle on top of Caprese salad skewers.

6 Must-Know Tubing Safety Tips

Tubing is a great activity that can make your day on the water an even more fun and adventurous experience! Boating at the Lake of the Ozarks is already incredibly fun, but when you add the thrill of riding behind the boat on a tube, it's hard to beat! One thing that BomBay Boat Rental Company knows is that tubing is a blast. But we also know it can be dangerous if you are not prepared. Keep reading to learn about safety precautions you should take when tubing at the Lake of the Ozarks.

1) Get Familiar with the Equipment

When tubing, it is very important that the rope and tube you are using are in good condition. If the rope is worn or the tube has a tear, things could go wrong very quickly while out on the water. BomBay Boat Rental always makes sure that our watercraft are in excellent condition, but the tube you use will be your responsibility. Check the weight limit and capacity of the tube you are using before going out on the water. And make sure the line is secure before you take off.

2) Follow the Rules

There are a lot of special rules about how you should and should not use a tube while boating in Missouri. To find a list of Missouri boating laws, check out this website: www.boat-ed.com.

3) Watch Your Surroundings

The Lake of the Ozarks is a very busy place, especially on weekends and even more so on holidays. If you plan on tubing this weekend, it will be very important for you to keep an eye on your surroundings. Double-check that your rider is ready before taking off, or they could get left behind or injured. Watch out for other boat or jet ski drivers that may not be paying attention. Sometimes it can be difficult for people to see a tow line and tube until it's too late.

4) Designate a Spotter

It is incredibly important to have someone dedicated to watching behind the boat to make sure the tuber is safe and still riding. If the rider should fall off the tube into the lake, it is the spotter's responsibility to raise the orange alert flag and notify the driver. The flag indicates to other boaters nearby that someone is overboard and to drive carefully when passing by. This will help keep your riders safe while tubing.

5) Take Your Rider into Consideration

Tubing can be a rough water sport with the amount of jostling from wakes and water spraying in your face while you ride. It's important to take your rider's experience into consideration when tubing. A 30-year-old man who is strong and good at swimming can probably take a faster speed and sharper turns than a 10-year-old boy who may not be good at swimming.

6) Wear a Life Jacket!

Even if your rider is a gold medal Olympic swimmer, it's important that they wear a life jacket while tubing. It's hard to know how you will react when thrown from a tube into the Lake until it happens. You may be too surprised and disoriented to find the right direction to swim to the surface without a life jacket. It can also get extremely rough and choppy at the Lake of the Ozarks when the water traffic is high. Some of the wakes can be incredibly large and hard to manage without the support and buoyancy of a life jacket.
