Prepare for a Great Day on the Water!

Spending a day out on the water is one of the most fun, relaxing, and enjoyable experiences at the Lake of the Ozarks! As you prepare for a day out on the water, there are a few things that you’ll want to make sure you keep in mind. BomBay Boat Rental is the best boat rental company at the Lake of the Ozarks, and we have all the tips you need for a great day on the Lake. Read on to learn more, and give us a call to reserve your rental boat!

Life Jackets

Most everyone knows that it’s important to have a life jacket for every boater on board. But it’s also important to make sure that the life jackets on board are the proper size and fit for each boater. If you have 10 adult life jackets, that won’t be effective for small children on board. Before you head out on the water, make sure you count and fit the life jackets to everyone going out with you.

Sunscreen

Don’t. Forget. The sunscreen! The last thing you’d want is to come home with a terrible sunburn. Not only is it painful and itchy, but it’s also not healthy for your skin. Make sure to bring enough sunscreen to be able to reapply every few hours as it washes and rubs off throughout the day. It’s also important to make sure the SPF is high enough to protect from damaging rays. SPF 30 is the common recommendation for the lowest level of protection. (Bonus tip: Don’t forget to protect your lips!)

Waterproof Bag

No one plans on throwing their belongings into the Lake, but you never know what’s going to happen. Keep your most important items (like your wallet, cell phones, keys, and ID) in a waterproof bag that can float in the water. That way, if the boat has to make a sudden stop or sharp turn and the bags fly overboard, your valuables won’t be lost forever.

Water

It’s hard for people to remember to bring bottles of water with them when they go out for a day of boating. As silly as it may sound, it can be easy for someone to subconsciously think they don’t need water when they are surrounded by a body of water. Staying hydrated while you’re on the Lake is very important. On a sunny day, you can quickly become dehydrated from sweating and enjoying the occasional dehydrating beverage. Keep this in mind, and make sure to stock plenty of water bottles in the cooler.

Snacks

Make sure to bring snacks or sack lunches with you as well. You and your boat mates will probably get hungry while spending a full day out on the water. Spending time in the sun, swimming, and enjoying sodas or adult beverages can make you feel even more hungry. You will thank yourself later if you pack food ahead of time. This could save you quite a bit of money (and let’s be honest, calories too) throughout the day.

Hand Sanitizer or Wipes

Throughout the day, it’s important to keep your hands clean. Even if you’re not fishing, when you have been swimming in the lake water, you will likely have a lot of germs and bacteria hanging out on your hands. It’s important to stay healthy and make sure you aren’t transmitting any germs into your own system or to others.

Essential Items for a Day of Boating at the Lake!

Boating season is in full swing here at the Lake of the Ozarks! BomBay Boat Boat Rental makes getting out on the water easy with four convenient Lake of the Ozarks boat rental locations! If you haven't had to the chance to get out on the water, it's time to pack your boating bags and get out on the water! Speaking of boating bags, when you plan a day out on the water you won't want to forget any essential items for a fun time out on the water. Today, our boat rental company at the Lake of the Ozarks has a full list of what to pack for a day of boating, check it out!

Wide-Brimmed Hat
When the sun comes out, you'll be thankful for this little addition in your boat bag.

Insect Repellent
If you have a pulse, you're a target for those pesky bugs! Keep some insect repellent on hand to protect yourself from their bites.

Chapstick
Did you know that even your lips can be burned from the sun? Chapstick can help protect them.

Motion Sickness Pills
Even if you aren't at risk of getting sick, your passengers could be. There are many different types and styles on the market, so find what works best and keep it on hand.

Hand Sanitizer or Wipes
After handling bait, fish, or anything else you may find on your boat outing, it can be nice to have a way to clean up.

Non-Perishable Snacks
Granola bars, peanut butter crackers, and anything that won't melt in the heat of being out all day are great snacks to keep on hand for if you get hungry.

Rain Gear
The weather can change at a moments notice, so keeping a few rain ponchos in your kit will help ensure that you are prepared.

Sunglasses
Forget your favorite pair at home? Don't worry! If you put a spare in your boat bag, you'll always be able to protect your eyes.

Sunscreen
When you're out on the water, you have very few places to hide from the sun, so you'll want to have proper protection in the form of sunscreen.

Light Jacket or Sweatshirt
Because the weather is so unpredictable, you may as well be prepared for sudden coolness throughout the day. A light jacket should be just enough to keep you from freezing if a breeze comes.

Towels
Even if you aren't planning on getting wet during your boat trip - accidents (or kids with water guns ... ) happen!

Distress Signals
Visual Distress Signals are imperative. You may be able to travel on the water for years without needing one, but when you do need it, you'll be glad that you have it.

Water Bottles
You'll want to have enough water for everyone on the boat, and for the length of time that you'll be out. That can look different for every boat trip, and obviously can't fit in your bag, but you'll want to have it just in case.

Airtight Cooler
Every good boat trip needs something to keep the food cold!

Boat License
In the state of Missouri, you have to have a boating license in order to operate a boat, even if you are just renting. Make sure you either keep this with your boating supplies or in your wallet so you'll have it.

Waterproof Camera
Sure, most people just use their cell phones, but sometimes it might be nice to have a camera that is waterproof for capturing memories. Plus, a waterproof camera can be a lot easier to replace than your cell phone if it falls in the water.

Cell Phone or Marine Radio
If something happens, you'll be thankful for a way to contact someone. Just make sure that your cell phone is either in a waterproof case, or you have a waterproof bag for it.

Change of Clothes
Whether you're planning on getting wet or not, having a change of clothes in a zip lock bag can be a huge relief if you want to wear something dry halfway through the day.

First Aid Kit
Accidents happen, but that doesn't mean you can't be prepared for them!

Fishing License
You can keep this with your boating license so that you always have it when you need it. You are required to have a fishing license in Missouri, so make sure you know the rules and are following them.
