Winter Fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks

If you love spending time on the Lake of the Ozarks, rain or shine, then you might find it difficult getting through the winter without your water fix. BomBay Boat Rental Company knows how you feel - we're already counting down the days until we re-open March 1st, 2017. 72 days in fact, and we couldn't be more excited to begin renting the best watercrafts at the Lake of the Ozarks. In the meantime, we've got a few fishing suggestions for our winter fishing friends - don't let the cold deter you from enjoying our lake for fishing this winter.

January and February Fishing

As December winds down and you gear up for the new year, you can look forward to some excellent fishing. Many feel that cold temperatures in January and February are a deterrent to catching fish, but according to BassingBob.com, it's actually one of the best times of the year to catch fish. There are big fish just waiting to bite your bait and all you've got to do is cast! Winter water temperatures at the Lake of the Ozarks average between the mid-30s and low to mid-40s, making conditions great for bass fishing. Anglers are well suited to fish the lower end of the lake this time of year, where the water is clearer and generally warmer.

Here's your BassingBob.com fishing expert tip: The trick to successful bass fishing during January and February really comes down to three baits. Jerk baits, jigs and the Alabama rig. Once your rod is ready, head for the channel banks, secondary points, bluff ends, and transition banks. You've got to find the fish to hook and reel them in!

Additionally, January and February are unique because, you have the opportunity to catch crappie on the same baits that are used to catch bass. You may find that big crappie gather in schools during this time of year, making catching a limit of large crappie not just doable, but common.

There are several fishing tournaments coming up over the next couple of months. Even if you don't participate, it can be a lot of fun visiting the weigh-ins and checking out the fish the competitors pull in. Check out BassingBob.com for more information.
